Italy in August
<p>Italian beaches are crowded and cities empty out in August as Italians go on vacation. You'll see signs on many shops and restaurants in Italy that say <em>chiuso per ferie</em>, closed for vacation, but you might also find good hotel bargains in the cities.</p><p> August 15 is a big holiday often celebrated with special events, music, parades, food, or fireworks. August is a good time for outdoor <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&zu=http://goitaly.about.com/od/festivalsandevents/a/july_fest_2.htm">music festivals</a> and local food festivals, look for a <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&zu=http://goitaly.about.com/od/italytravelglossary/g/sagra.htm">sagra</a> sign. August festivals include the second running of the <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&zu=http://goitaly.about.com/od/festivalsandevents/qt/siena-palio.htm">Siena palio race</a> and medieval festivals like the <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&zu=http://goitaly.about.com/od/festivalsandevents/a/ascoli-piceno-medieval-jousting.htm">Quintina</a>, a jousting event in Ascoli Piceno. Find more festivals and events in <a href="http://goitaly.about.com/od/festivalsandevents/a/august_fest.htm"><strong>August Festivals in Italy</strong></a>. </p><p style="background:#f5f3ef;border:1px solid #d5d0bf;clear:both;padding:.5em;"><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&zu=http://goitaly.about.com/b/2010/07/30/italy-in-august-2.htm">Italy in August</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&zu=http://goitaly.about.com/">About.com Italy Travel</a> on Friday, July 30th, 2010 at 23:26:31.</p><p><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&zu=http://goitaly.about.com/b/2010/07/30/italy-in-august-2.htm">Permalink</a> | <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&zu=http://goitaly.about.com/b/2010/07/30/italy-in-august-2.htm#gB3">Comment</a> | <a href="http://goitaly.about.com/gi/pages/shareurl.htm?PG=http://goitaly.about.com/b/2010/07/30/italy-in-august-2.htm&zItl=Italy in August">Email this</a></p>

Where to See Religious Relics in Rome
<p>Rome's churches are filled with religious relics that you might not notice if you don't know what to look for. Relics can be anything - a piece of cloth related to a saint, chains, shards from the holy cross or manger or even actual body parts. Advice for Using a GPS When Driving in Italian Cities
Readers, recently back from a trip to Italy where they drove using a GPS, offer this advice:<blockquote>When driving and using a GPS in large cities such as Milan or Florence, there will be construction your GPS doesn't know about and you could circle an area forhours (literally) and never come to your final destination (hotel). So when you circle the second time simply park, walk with the name and address you are looking for (in writing) and shop owners or workers will give instructions. No doubt you will be within a few blocks, go to the hotel or other destination and request assistance in finding a parking lot and bringing your bags.</blockquote><p><strong>More from Italy Travel</strong>: <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&zu=http://goitaly.about.com/od/carrentalsandleases/Driving_in_Italy_Car_Rentals_and_Leasing.htm">Driving and Car Rentals in Italy</a> | <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&zu=http://goitaly.about.com/od/italytraveltips/Italy_Travel_and_Safety_Tips.htm">Italy Travel Tips</a><p style="background:#f5f3ef;border:1px solid #d5d0bf;clear:both;padding:.5em;"><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&zu=http://goitaly.about.com/b/2010/07/17/gps-in-italian-cities-advice.htm">Advice for Using a GPS When Driving in Italian Cities</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&zu=http://goitaly.about.com/">About.com Italy Travel</a> on Saturday, July 17th, 2010 at 11:51:01.</p><p><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&zu=http://goitaly.about.com/b/2010/07/17/gps-in-italian-cities-advice.htm">Permalink</a> | <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&zu=http://goitaly.about.com/b/2010/07/17/gps-in-italian-cities-advice.htm#gB3">Comment</a> | <a href="http://goitaly.about.com/gi/pages/shareurl.htm?PG=http://goitaly.about.com/b/2010/07/17/gps-in-italian-cities-advice.htm&zItl=Advice for Using a GPS When Driving in Italian Cities">Email this</a></p>
